Electrical Rewires

Faulty electrics and outdated wiring can lead to severe hazards in your property, such as electrocutions and serious fires.
How do I know if my property needs a rewire?
If your home or property hasn’t received a rewiring within the last 25-30 years, a rewire is often necessary, as there is a high chance it will need upgrading in order to bring it up to current wiring standards.
Other signs to look out for include:
• Damage to socket outlets, switches and lights
• Overheating at socket outlets
• Fuses regularly blowing
• The need for extension leads and/or socket outlet adaptors
• If the socket outlet uses a round pin type
A rewire may also be required if you are planning major remodelling work to a building (that constitutes a material alteration as defined by Building Regulations).
How long does the rewiring process take?
A full rewire can take anywhere between four working days and a week, depending on the size of the property. During this time, any disruption to your day-to-day life will be kept to a minimum and any mess caused as a result of the work will be cleared.
Upon completion of the rewiring, we will give you the appropriate certificate. This confirms that the work has been carried out, inspected and tested in accordable with BS 7671 – the national safety standard for electrical installations.
Each of our professional electricians is NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting) approved and has years of experience in the trade.
As part of our excellent customer service, we are able to offer free, no obligation quotes and expert advice.

Consumer Units (aka) Fuse Boards

What are fuse boards?
Otherwise known as consumer units or fuse boxes, fuse boards are the main hub of your home, connecting the electricity meter and all the electrical circuits in a property. They distribute electrical power around a house and provide electrical protection for individual electrical circuits.
Fuse boards are made up of three elements: the main switch, fuses and Residual Current Devices. Modern units contain MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers) in place of fuses. These are designed to protect the fuse board from overloading and short circuiting and also prevent damage to cables and equipment.
How do I know if my fuse board needs upgrading?
To ensure the occupants of your property are safe from hazards such as electric shocks, fuse boards should meet the current BS 7671 requirements. If your existing installation doesn’t, it will require an upgrade in order to adhere to the electrical wiring regulations.
All of our professional electricians have years of experience in the trade and they are fully trained and qualified. They strive on upholding the highest standards of workmanship from the initial enquiry all the way through to completion.
To give you peace of mind, each of our fuse board upgrades and installations are available for an extremely competitive price and come with a 12 month guarantee. Free, no obligation estimates and expert advice are also available upon request.

Electrical Inspections and Testing

Over time, electrical installations deteriorate due to their age and use. As a result, it is important for them to be inspected and tested at regular intervals.
At AAES Electrical, we are able to carry out electrical inspections and testing in Milton Keynes for an extremely competitive price.
Electrical Inspections & Testing
Experts recommend that electrical installations are inspected and tested every 10 years in owner-occupied homes, and every five years in rented properties.
Furthermore, a periodic inspection should be undertaken when a property is being prepared for letting, before the sale of a property or when buying a previously-occupied property.
Periodic Inspections
During a periodic inspection, a fully trained and qualified electrical engineer will carry out the following steps:
• Reveal if any of your electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded
• Find any potential electric shock risks/fire hazards
• Identify any defective electrical work
• Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding
In addition, the electrical engineer will also carry out tests on any wiring and electrical equipment in the property to ensure they are in safe, working order.
Electrical Installation Condition Report
Upon completion of the inspection and testing, our electrical engineer will issue an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). This document highlights any observations such as damage, deterioration, defects and dangerous conditions.
Such dangerous conditions typically include non-compliances with BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IEE Wiring Regulations).
Should the electrical engineer find anything dangerous (or potentially dangerous) in your property, they will declare it “unsatisfactory”. They will then guide you through the best course of action to take next.
At AAES Electrical, each of our electrical engineers has years of experience in the trade and they strive on the high quality of their workmanship.
